Jag såg just mig själv i backspegeln, och insåg att jag inte sett mig själv på snart tv veckor. Det är ganska skönt att slippa bry sig om smink och utseende, alla här är lika smutsiga och obrydda. Konstant blöt i svett och med röd afrikasand ÖVERALLT. Brun blir man inte eftersom att solen bara tittar fram ibland, oftast är det mulet och regn regn regn. Stranden har jag besökt EN gång, då vi tryckte in 26 barn i en minibuss och åkte ner till havet. Smal blir man inte heller. Kosten består av socker och fett, snabba kolhydrater och noll protein. Idealet är iofs att vara så ljushyad och tjock som möjligt, så ur det perspektivet så är det ju helt korrekt! Synd bara att blekfet inte är lika högt rankat i Sverige...
Vi tog som sagt med barnen till stranden i veckan. De älskar det! "Madame Jenni! Today is beach?" och så ett glädjetjut när svaret äntligen blev ja. Det är ett projekt att ta dem till stranden, det tar väl en timme att gå men hälften av barnen är under fyra år och skulle aldrig orka. Därför tryckte vi in alla 26 barn och fyra vuxna i en tro-tro avsedd för tolv... Trångt ja, men lätt värt det! Vågorna slår hårt och högt vid kusten så det är inte läge att ligga å plaska i strandkanten, men dessa barn var så lyckliga bara över att få springa på stranden, plocka snäckor och bygga sandslott. Framför allt var de lyckliga att få komma ifrån barnhemmet en stund. När jag sa att vi skulle åka sprang de alla och tog på sina finaste kläder och skor (oftast är de barfota, troligtvis för att alla skor är i fel storlek) och en del tog på sig sin ryggsäck (de som äger en), trots att de alla var tomma... Goa ungar!
Våra norska kollegor som kom i måndags har idag åkt till Accra. Runa, en av tjejerna, har malaria och behöver läggas in på sjukhus. Sedan de kom har hon bara legat, och det enda hon fått i sig sedan måndags kväll är två små bitar ananas. Hon fick medicin i onsdags här på sjukhuset i senya beraku, men hon har inte blivit bättre. Vi håller alla tummar och tår att hon återhämtar sig snart! Malariaprofylaxen ger uppenbarligen inte 100% skydd så ni kan väl hålla en tumme för att jag ska slippa drabbas också...
Norrmännen hade med sig två resväskor med kläder, och i onsdags köpte vi plastväskor med blixtlås åt barnen och fördelade kläderna i dem. Alla barnen fick igår varsin väska och jublade högt när de fick se sina nya kläder. "hello! See! Hello! See!" hojtade de och viftade med plagg efter plagg. De var helt ok kläder, men våra barn hemma i Sverige hade lagt dem längst in i garderoben för att de är otrendiga och redan använda. Det är sådana kontraster... Kwame, en åtta år gammal pojke, var så otroligt glad över sin nya tröja, en rosa lite urtvättad och nopprig hello-Kitty med glitter. Å andra sidan var den både hel, ren och fri från mögel.
De senaste dagarna har jag tagit upp fyra barn i taget till vårt hus, och låtit de måla akryl. De har fått sitta vid vårt bord utan att trängas, utan allt stoj och gråt från barnhemmet och lyssna på lugn musik från min mobil. De får min odelade uppmärksamhet, och för första gången är det lugn och harmoniskt. De tycker om det, men om Madame är där så förvandlas de till små apatiska soldater. Då skäller hon på dem för att de inte målar, och meningen med hela projektet faller. Jag vill ju att de ska få en paus, göra något roligt och få vara kreativa i en lugn miljö. Eftersom Madame varit där en hel del så har jag tagit tillbaka de barn som hon gastat på en extra gång, och nu växer högen med målningar stadigt! Jag kommer att få med mig många vackra bilder av hus, bilar och blommor hem.
Det är underligt att man i ett land som är så beroende av naturen och dess resurser, är så totalt värdelösa på att hålla naturen ren. Man släpper skräpet där man står, och än så länge har jag inte sett en enda soptunna här. Skräpet ligger i drivor, och är det på ens egen bakgård så skrapar man ihop det och tuttar eld på det lite då och då. Och det gör man med allt. Blöjor, konservburkar, plastflaskor, påsar... Jag pratade med Felicia, barnhemmets ägare, om detta och hon sa att det blivit betydligt bättre nu. Om detta är bättre så vill jag inte veta hur det såg ut förr... Hur som helst så får det mig att fundera. Barnen är de nästa generation i Ghana och om ingen lär dem att hålla naturen ren så kommer problemet att kvarstå. Och bli det grisigare än så här så spelar det ingen roll hur fredligt ghana är, turismen och därmed landets utveckling kommer inte att öka i alla fall. Jag köpte en banan var till alla barnen, och insåg först när jag stod med bananskal upp till knäna hur djupt inpräntat beteendet är. De slänger inte ens IVÄG det, utan droppar det framför fötterna. Jag tror, om tiden och kraften finns, att jag ska engagera mig i skräpfrågan innan jag far. Det handlar troligtvis om okunskap, både hos den yngre och äldre generationen. Än vågar jag inte sätta målet "Ghanas renaste barnhem", men kanske i framtiden. Man ska sikta mot stjärnorna!
Ni ska veta att det arbete och de pengar som jag och ni lagt ner är väldigt uppskattat. Jag har av felicia blivit nedbjuden till Ghana igen, kostnadsfritt (förutom flygbiljetter) för att kunna kontrollera och driva arbetet med barnhemmet i framtiden, vilket känns jättebra!
